yes indeed. B-rizzle  |  January 27, 2015
If you're thinking about getting one, do it. Some people say they like the side push button interface on the newer models but I much prefer the rear interface like this one has. I went from an EXPS 2-0 to this 553 and they are both awesome HWS but I much prefer the 553. SOCOM knows their shit, and if SOCOM runs it, then that's exactly what I want. This model doubles the underwater max depth of all other EOTech models I've seen, I absolutely love the A.R.M.S. mounts on this sight, I run them on everything else too (light mounts etc) if you want the toughest EOTech ever made, buy this one.

I was in the military, attached to a Spec ops unit and as support we got issued the Eotech 553. It took me a bit to understand how to get it zeroed but after that it was all 5.56 mm fun. I was able to hit a target at 700 meters with this model (no magnifier.) Now honestly this model was meant for 300 meters but we like to push it and to see how far it will go. Durability is great because one halo jump (High altitude Low oxygen) a soldiers weapon sling broke and the rifle fell 30,000 ft to the earth. When we found it the rifle's buttstock was broken the barrel was slightly bent and the rail system was cracked but to our amazement the EOTech 553 only had slight scratches!! The quick mount lever system makes it easy to attach and detach it to a picatinny rail. The night vision capability works great if you're going to attach a night vision sight or adapter along with it. I could say that the only downside is the EOTech 553 is that it shuts off after 8 hours by itself, not too good if you are doing long-term operations and missions or leaving it on overnight for home protection. People could say that the buttons on the back for turning the 553 on and off or making the reticle bright or dim is kind of awkward if you have a magnifier on the back but honestly I never engage anything over 300 meters and was mostly in an urban environment house to house clearing. Now if you do need something that will engage targets above 300 meters Eotech has more options to choose from like the EXPS2 and EXPS3 with the magnifier with all of the controls on the side of the holographic red dot sight and also you have a quick mount system or a screw into place system. I would have to say the EOTech 553 is the one for me and that I have it on my IWI Tavor but i can't wait to mount it on the new Desert Tech MDR that's coming out in mid 2015!
